The Anchoring Piece
Elegans is the anchoring piece of the Christopher Butendorff collection — a minimalist watch built on the conviction that a timepiece should be quiet enough to wear every day and considered enough to keep for years.
Christopher Butendorff started with a frustration most watch owners know: a beautiful watch rendered unwearable by a strap that could not be changed without tools or a jeweller's visit. The modular system was the answer. Elegans is where that answer meets Scandinavian minimalism — a watch that exists because time should never limit your style, and your watch should not either.
Each Elegans is Swiss Made, powered by a Ronda 702 movement, and finished with K1 sapphire-coated glass. The case is available in 36mm and 42mm with a 20mm band width. Three leather straps come included — blue, orange, and green — chosen for their versatility across formal and everyday wear. Every watch is individually numbered and produced in small batches in Switzerland, arriving with a certificate of authenticity and a 24-month international warranty. Production takes nine to twelve months. Christopher Butendorff does not consider that a delay — it is the reality of Swiss craftsmanship made to order.
Elegans is built on the modular system: the watch head separates from the strap without tools, allowing you to move between the three included leather straps or any compatible 20mm strap in the collection. A single watch becomes several. The change takes seconds. This is not a feature added to a finished watch — the watch was designed around it from the first sketch.
Elegans is made to order and individually numbered — created for those who value timeless design, considered craftsmanship, and the freedom to adapt without compromise. One watch, three leather expressions, each designed to move effortlessly between everyday refinement, business, and evening occasions.
Choose the expression that suits the moment. Change it when the moment changes. Keep the timepiece that connects them all.

Made to Order in Switzerland
Every Christopher Butendorff watch is made to order and produced in Switzerland. From the moment your order is confirmed, production takes approximately 9 to 12 months.
That timeline is deliberate. Each watch is handmade, assembled, and quality-checked by Swiss watchmakers, then finished and individually numbered as part of a limited edition. We produce in small batches rather than at scale — the process is closer to commissioning a piece than buying one off a shelf.
What happens in that time:
- Case machining, finishing, and assembly
- Movement installation and regulation
- Hand assembly and quality control
- Individual numbering and certificate preparation
When your watch is ready, it ships with a certificate of authenticity and a 24-month international warranty covering manufacturing defects.
Returns: Unused watches in original condition and packaging may be returned within 30 days. Because each piece is made to order, we encourage you to reach out with any questions before purchasing.
FAQ
How do I change the strap on the Elegans?
The modular system is designed for tool-free strap swaps. The watch head releases from the strap by hand, and a new strap clicks into place — no tools, no jeweller visit.
What do the case sizes refer to?
The numbers — 24mm, 36mm, and 42mm — refer to the watch head (the case that holds the dial and movement), not to wrist size. These are the available case sizes across the collection. A smaller case offers a more understated presence on the wrist; a larger case makes a stronger statement. Choose the case size that matches how you want the watch to look and wear. Elegans is available in 36mm and 42mm.

Everything you need to know
Christopher Butendorff is designed around freedom of choice. Choose the timepiece that feels like you, then pair it with different straps to suit the moment — from training and travel to meetings and evenings out.
How does the Christopher Butendorff concept work?
Start by choosing your timepiece — the shape, size and finish you prefer. Then select the straps that fit your style and lifestyle. The interchangeable design lets you create different looks around the same watch.
Can I change the strap myself?
Yes. The system is designed to make switching straps quick and intuitive, allowing you to change the character of your watch whenever you want.
Do I need any tools to change the strap?
No specialist watchmaking tools are needed. The interchangeable system is designed for everyday use, so you can move from one look to another with ease.
Can I use several straps with the same watch?
Absolutely. That is the idea. Build a collection of straps and switch between them depending on your outfit, activity or occasion.
Which size should I choose?
As a general guide: 24mm suits smaller wrists and those who prefer a delicate, understated profile. 36mm is a versatile size that works well on most wrists. 42mm suits larger wrists or those who prefer a more prominent dial. The best guide is your own preference — watch sizing is personal.
Can I add more straps later?
Of course. Your watch is designed to evolve with you. Start with the combination you love today and add new straps whenever you want a different expression.
