The Watch
Heritage. Reimagined. Tela is the heritage expression of the modular system — a watch that pairs Scandinavian restraint with the woven texture and quiet history of Nato textile straps. It reads as everyday, but it is not generic.
Tradition Made Possible. Christopher Butendorff built the modular system so that a watch could change with the person wearing it. Tela applies that principle to a specific tradition: the Nato strap, with its roots in military practicality and its present in considered everyday style. Three colourways — Nato, Canterbury, and Glasgow — cover a range from understated to distinctive. The watch stays Swiss. The strap tells the story. Time should never limit your style. Your watch should not either.
Swiss Made. Woven with Character. Each Tela is Swiss Made, powered by a Ronda 702 movement, and finished with K1 sapphire-coated glass. The case is available in 36mm and 42mm with a 20mm band width. Three Nato textile straps come included — Nato, Canterbury, and Glasgow — each woven for durability and selected for its character. Every watch is individually numbered and produced in small batches in Switzerland, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a 24-month international warranty. The nine-to-twelve-month production timeline is the cost of Swiss made-to-order. It is not negotiable, and it is not apologised for.
Three Expressions. Beyond One Tradition. Tela sits fully inside the modular system. The watch head releases from any Nato strap by hand, and the three included straps are a starting point — any compatible 20mm strap in the collection fits, whether Nato, leather, PVC, or metal link. Heritage in the morning, leather by evening, PVC for the weekend. The system does not limit you to one tradition.
Make Tela Your Own. Tela is made to order and individually numbered — created for those who appreciate the character of tradition without being defined by it. Three distinctive textile expressions allow one timepiece to move effortlessly between understated, individual, and unmistakably personal.
Choose the expression that tells your story today. Change it when the story changes. Keep the timepiece that connects them all.

Manufacturing & Delivery
Made to order in Switzerland
Every Christopher Butendorff watch is made to order and produced in Switzerland. From the moment your order is confirmed, production takes approximately 9 to 12 months.
That timeline is deliberate. Each watch is handmade, assembled, and quality-checked by Swiss watchmakers, then finished and individually numbered as part of a limited edition. We produce in small batches rather than at scale — the process is closer to commissioning a piece than buying one off a shelf.
What happens in that time:
- Case machining, finishing, and assembly
- Movement installation and regulation
- Hand assembly and quality control
- Individual numbering and certificate preparation
When your watch is ready, it ships with a certificate of authenticity and a 24-month international warranty covering manufacturing defects.
Returns: Unused watches in original condition and packaging may be returned within 30 days. Because each piece is made to order, we encourage you to reach out with any questions before purchasing.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the three Nato strap styles?
Nato, Canterbury, and Glasgow — three woven textile colourways, each with a distinct character, all included with the watch.
Can I use Tela with non-Nato straps?
Yes. Tela uses the modular system at 20mm band width, so any compatible 20mm strap — leather, PVC, metal link, or Nato — fits by hand without tools.
What do the case sizes refer to?
The numbers — 24mm, 36mm, and 42mm — refer to the watch head (the case that holds the dial and movement), not to wrist size. These are the available case sizes across the collection. A smaller case offers a more understated presence on the wrist; a larger case makes a stronger statement. Choose the case size that matches how you want the watch to look and wear. Tela is available in 36mm and 42mm.
